row eleven and hand quilting.

I had so much fun sewing together the spools for row number eleven.  As you can probably tell, I am skipping around a little bit, since I am a ways behind.  I am like a child in a candy store having to choose which of my favorite candy to buy first.

Before stepping out this morning for an orthodontist appointment, I managed to get a little cutting done for my next row to sew together ... tulips!  Lori's tulips are so stinking cute, I can't wait to finish this row.  Which happens to be row thirteen.

 

Over the weekend (and nestled in my car at the orthodontist this morning), I managed to get some of the hand quilting done on my scattered quilt.  

I love the nubby feel of perle 8 thread.  It is my absolute favorite!  I enjoy the back just as much as the front.

On a side note, I made this for dinner last night.  Oh my goodness was it good!  Don't you just love pinterest?!

row number six.

Why oh why have I not done this sooner?  What a fun row to complete!  These yummy cups of cocoa make up  row number six in Lori's Row Along Quilt.  I can't wait to make the next eight rows (there are thirteen total).  I skipped row five - flying geese and I don't play well together.  However, Lori has a neat technique that I have been wanting to try and I am sure will get me past my silly reluctancy.  Have a lovely weekend!  xo

I am shamefully behind in Lori's row along.  After becoming discouraged several rows back I tucked my quilt rows aside while still admiring everyone else's progress.  After a much needed nudge from Lori (thanks for the encouragement), I am rowing along again.  I may still be working on my rows while everyone else is putting the finishing touches on their completed quilt, but I am now determined to see it through.  xoxo

This Christmas is defined by one word : simple.

And I could not be happier.  So few ornaments came out of the boxes, and even fewer decorations.  That is one reason why I won't be showing you my Christmas tree in it's entirety.  ha ha ha.

The Christmas shopping was limited to online purchases, free shipping, great sales, just the right gifts for those we love.  Why haven't I done this more in the past?!

Of course, I am still finishing up the homemade gifts (crochet pincushions, quilts, pillows, etc) and I am truly enjoying every moment of it.

On the sewing front, I took a few minutes yesterday to play a little catch up on my row along quilt, hosted by Lori.  These mittens were so fun to make!  I am finding that, the larger pieces of fabric I originally pulled are not needing to be cut into as much, I am able to use more "scraps", which is awesome.  I would rather make use of my snippets of favorite fabrics and save my larger pieces for larger projects.

By the way, have you seen Lori's newest fabric line coming out this May??  

 I about died!  So stinking cute!  

I would love to decorate my kitchen using it!  I am thinking table topper, valance, aprons (I desperately need to learn how to sew aprons!), etc.

Ya.  I'm smitten!

catching up with a quilty post.

The first four rows in Lori's Row Along quilt are finished.  

Now onto the fifth row, flying geese.

 This is going to be such a sweet and happy quilt!

 Now to piece some batting so I can finish my 
beloved Hopscotch quilt.  It measures 53" x 53".  
I am debating on using it for a large table topper.

oh how i have missed my sewing machine.

The hum of my sewing machine was quiet for over a week.  It has since been singing along so sweetly.  I have missed creating and sewing, so much.  You might as well tell me not to breathe on days like that.  Are you that way too?

Last spring after the Spring Market, my dear friend Amy surprised me with a couple of mini charm packs.  What a special treat!!  I could hardly wait to create something meaningful with them.  I found a wonderful pattern and it came together so quickly.  The hand quilting is done, and today I will finish the binding (at the dentist office).  My little creation is a table topper.  I am in love with Fig Tree fabrics for the fall.  

I have a larger table topper made from Breakfast at Tiffanys and I can hardly wait to bring it out each fall.

I am also finishing up row four from Lori's row along.  I am smitten with these adorable apples!  I have never made an apple block and can't wait to show them tomorrow!
I will have other finishes as well, that have not been shown.  I apologize for showing all my starts and yet am not so good at showing the finishes.  I will try harder in that department.

I am like a child on Christmas morning, waiting for Lori's adorable quilt along instructions!  Row two is now underway and I love it!  I had never made a butterfly block and Lori's method is wonderful!  I am so thankful for the time she has taken with us to share her amazing talents.  If you are not currently doing the quilt along and would like to join, hop in!  We are on row two and Lori has allowed two weeks between each lesson.

row along. row one.

 

 These little 2.5" blocks are so stinking cute!!

Row one is complete and I have a feeling this is going to be one of my very favorite quilts!  I can.not.wait for the next row (in two weeks).  If you are interested in rowing along with us, hop on over to Lori's blog Bee In My Bonnet .  Row one has just started.

We are getting quite a bit of rain and lots of wind.  Hurricane Isaac is sure taking his sweet time to move along.  On a good note (a bit of a shocker in these parts) as you can see, I have power and internet!  That is unusual.  Not sure how long it will last, but you can bet I am enjoying every moment.  Let's see how long it lasts.

Funny thing.  We are waiting for Isaac to hit, and I am joining a "row along" quilt along over at Lori's place!  The quilt is a bit of a mystery.  So we are all pulling scraps from our fabric in the colors she has shown and will create each row as she reveals them.  So much fun!!  I just love surprises, don't you?  

I have received emails asking how we are fairing so far.  We have had some gusts of wind and a couple of showers, of course the skies are gray, but other than that, it has been quiet.  Isaac is moving slowly along, so the events will intensify in gradually. 

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to show the fabric I have pulled for the quilt along and wondered if you too are joining in?
