Yesterday morning was spent photographing pictures in my photo albums, for my birth daughter Valerie who lives in Michigan.
It was so fun to dig out these dear images that have been tucked away for so long. I wish I could actually remember these events. They were such happy times. Mom and dad are both gone now.
But do you see that sweet lady making silly faces at me in the first picture? That is my dearest aunt. She resides in Northern California (where I am from) and I miss her terribly. I hate that I live so far from her.
These next photos make me smile. My great grandma Alden was very dear to my mom, who I am sure is taking the picture. I don't remember her, but know that she taught my mom how to crochet and the two of them were very close.
How sweet and attentive, she is obviously letting me explain ... something. Don't you just love when children do that?
I have more albums to work on over the next several days. I love that Valerie is wanting to learn more about her birth family. (She was adopted from me when I was a teen.) I know how much I wish I could have known my own mom.
It is funny how mom and I had such little time together and yet I have been told how much I not only look like her but act like her as well.

ReplyDeleteI am amazing how Reagan has many mannerisms like his birth mom. nature plays a big part in our personalities along with the nurture parts.

Awww, how neat! My birth mother and I are estranged but she does send my kids (her only grandchildren, I am her only child) cards and money at birthdays & Christmas. She's chosen her niece & niece's son as her family. It hurts but reinforces how lucky I am that I had/have the parents that I do, the brothers that I have, etc. God is good & knows what He is doing, that's for sure! I was going through old photos and came across a photo from when my twins were babies, being held by my biological grandmother. I showed it to my older daughter because she has her great-grandmother's nose! I just checked out Emily Giffin's "Where We Belong" from the library. I'm just a few chapters into it but it's good, about an 18 year old finding her biological mother. You might enjoy it. I'm going to read a bit more to see if I want to reserve it for my mom to read.

My mother was adopted and we have no knowledge of her family. It leaves a very large whole in your heart. I continue to be ever blessed by your sweet and giving nature. It is a rarity.
