The flu managed to go a second round in our house this past weekend, so we all ended up in the living room. Me, pinning and stitching away, sick daughter and husband, camped out on couches, watching NCIS marathon and our son outdoors practicing his shooting with a new pellet gun.
One more thing before I go ... I save my husband's work shirts, and add touches of them into each quilt I make. It is fun finding little blocks of him stitched in what I hope will one day become a family heirloom. In our attic, I have saved my daughters little cotton dresses from when she was very young. I hope to use them in quilts for her own children one day. And of course, I saved plaid cotton shirts from when my son wore them ... he prefers tshirt type shirts now, so will have to be content with the few I have from his childhood.

Wow!!!! You've been busy. It's so beautiful. I love the idea of using touches of your hubby...wish I had started that early on. I have a few of my gransons plaid shirts saved for projects because they are so soft after many wahsings. I guess I'll start there. Hope you are all feeling better.

ReplyDeleteHi Trish, your quilt is lovely. You have so much done and mine is still sitting in a box. I just cannot decide what pattern to use. I love that you use pieces of your husband's shirts in your quilts. How wonderful! Are you hand quilting, it sounds like it. And what are you using for thread? Something special?? cos you talked about getting it in other colors. I think your crocheting is coming along nicely. Too bad you had to start again since you cut it. I always feel so silly when I do such a goofy mistake. Oh and did you use a pattern for that quilt, or just make up blocks as you went? I really like it cos it shows off the prints so nice.

Your stitches look so good! I would much rather hand quilt a large quilt than machine stitch. I just don't like the pain in my shoulders and neck from machine quilting :( This will be a great quilt...hope everyone gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is wonderful! Love the colors and style and what a great idea to add bits of hubbys shirts! I have some feedsacks from my grandmother that I add to special quilts. Each of the girls quilts that I made have some pinwheels made from their great grandmothers feedsacks and so far I have added pieces to the other two quilts I am (still) working on. What kind of batting are you using?
