september.

Well hello there!
How have you been?
I hope September is off to a great start for you!
The past month has been one of adjustments for me.  All good.  Just different.  Our son is settled away at college and the house has taken on a new sort of quiet.  Which to be honest is still pretty weird.
I am learning how to cook for two.  So far that means I make a meal and we end up freezing half of it.  That comes in super handy when I am busy outdoors or sewing.  I just pull it down from the freezer and voila ... dinner is served!
All the things that can be expected are surfacing ... less laundry to wash, keeping one bathroom clean rather than two, I take out the garbage now, you know ... meaningless stuff.
The more meaningful things surface too, his parking place is empty, his laughter is over texting rather than in person, and no more hugs, for now.
But it is all part of life isn't it?
All part of growing and evolving into the next chapter.
To be quite honest, as a mom, who stays home and cares for my family on many levels, I just sort of snuggled into that station in life and really didn't see any other way.  So you can imagine my wake up call when things did change.  After the shock wore off, some of my own changes are coming about.  And I am finding it to be a wonderful adventure!!
I feel like I am evolving.  I am growing and changing and learning.  I have a  fresh and new fascination with all things cosmology and astronomy, learning about the pioneers and their discoveries of such matters.  I can't get enough!
Last night as Woody and I were falling asleep, I rolled over and whispered,"In your own words, will you explain to me direct current and alternating current."  Not exactly whispers of sweet nothings, but I have also been learning about Nikola Tesla and I married an incredibly brilliant man, who is patient in answering my many new questions on topics that he just so happens to love as well.  It is awesome!
I have been designing more quilt patterns that I plan to show right here as tutorials for anyone who may be interested.
Autumn is approaching (not fast enough for my taste - lol) and that means my outdoor chores will be more enjoyable and fewer actually.  Plus, and this is the best part of all, windows and doors will be open, breezes blowing through the house ... heavenly!  Living on the north west coast for the first 30 years of my life, this southern heat and humidity has been a lot to get use to.  I find I am craving fall and winter more and more as I get older.
Would that be a "snow bird" flying backwards?!  ha ha ha.

  2. I too have an empty nest. Son (23) moved in with his girlfriend this summer. I wasn't upset as you said just the way life should be. Guess we both did a good job of being a mother.

  3. I hear you sweet friend. I went through the same thing in the past few years. Let me tell you though, you are going to bloom with all the extra time to pursue your sewing! You'll get through it and adjust and I know you'll soon find the fun in this next phase!
