something I never want to forget.

I have been pondering a great deal of things lately.  My thoughts over take me and bring me to places of curiosity and wondering.  Maybe it is because I am in my mid 40's and it is just the "appointed time".  Time to take into account those things and events that have filled the last many years of my life.

Some of those events have caused me to stand still and not move forward.  I desire growth and strength that comes from taking those steps.  God's faithfulness in so many personal and sacred places of my heart spur me on.  He reminds me of His word and those promises that I claim and put forth into action.  And the precious results that follow.  That He hears my every prayer, that He shows Himself to me in my daily life.

Other places of pondering are ones that fill my heart with the most amazing joys and greatest happiness that nothing could ever compare.  Simple pleasures of everyday life as a stay at home wife and mom.  Those are the ones that every morning I lace around my heart like a beautiful garland.  Overflowing with gratitude.

Last Thursday I attended a bible study that my husband's aunt invited me to.  I had already completed this particular study, through the Psalms of Ascent, but was so happy to once again study those same scriptures.  I had placed the completed workbook (of which I had not opened since) on my shelf a few years ago.

Little did I know of the divine appointment the Lord had set before me last Thursday.  During the video, I opened my workbook and began taking notes, reading those I had written prior.

The notes I had first taken were vulnerable and deeply pained.  I felt compelled to run from them.  The study was during a "dark" period.  A time of pleading with the Lord for peace, rest and understanding.  It would seem that nothing I could do or say, no love I could pour out, nor kindness shared, would change the circumstances around me.  I clung even tighter to the side of my Heavenly Father, and cried out to Him.  While penning every detail of the happenings taking place.  At first I became a bit embarrassed of these notes, and even contemplated getting rid of the workbook.  I figured I could just purchase a new one to write in.

And then the dearest revelation came to me.   It struck me, I am no longer there.  Those struggles and pains are no longer prevalent in my life.  But rather growth and strength from applying His word to my needs.  My prayers indeed were heard, but the pains and discomforts were designed for that time.  Those moments of darkness were ordered by a loving Father in heaven Who knew what would result.  Who had previously prepared my heart through His word and testimony of His presence in my life.

I realized something else about those notes.  For quite some time I allowed the trials to define me.  I thought less of myself for going through them in the first place.  They made me feel "sheepish", low.

Now however I feel liberated.  I have discovered even more hidden testimonies that the Lord tucked away, just for me.  Just for us.  Ones that I was unable to see because my focus was on what seemed like failure but was indeed triumphant!

Thank you Lord.  Thank you for loving me, for strengthening me, for blessing me, every single day!   Thank you Lord for the trials of life that draw me closer to You.  That shape me into Your Son's image.  xo

  1. That is an awesome revelation Trish. It reminded of my own struggles..
For years all I wanted was to know the Truth about God Yeshua the Messiah and my relationship to both.Pretty basic , I know, but God showed me as well as He did to you, years later now in my 50s all the looking and searching, all the studies I made etc. all the books I read, when all the time all I needed was right there for me. The simplicity of it all and yet i had to go through so much complication to get to the simple knowledge of Him as my true nature in me..I keep saying to myself , He was raised a new Nature, NOT a new religion...The second part is what throws us all off...God bless.

  4. What a beautiful post Trish! Isn't it a blessing that you can be reminded of that time and know that you are no longer burdened that way and that it lead to growth? I have found old notebooks with prayer requests, ponderings, etc, and been astonished at the things I had asked for, long forgotten because the requests had been answered. The reminder of where we have been, no matter how painful, can be so informative. I am glad you have resolved those old issues, God is good:>) Thank you for sharing this.

  6. Absolutely! I started keeping a prayer journal last year and have been shocked! when I look back through it and see the many, many answers to my prayers - something I would not have been aware of before I started writing it all down. So glad you went to this Bible study again and saw the truth from what you had written before.

  9. Beautiful words, Trish. And what a beautiful lesson for all of us. He is there....in our hearts....and He is constantly guiding, even when we think He is missing from our lives. I was especially drawn to your words about how we tend to allow our trials to define us. WE get to define ourselves. Thank you.....sending love.

  11. Thanks for sharing! I love how God does not a waste a single thing. Our trials and difficult seasons become platforms to share the amazing grace and mercy of God. It seems that the seasons of our life change, but the Almighty God that we serve remains constant and true. Thanks for your obedience in sharing your victories. Now unto him who is able to do immeasurably more . . . . Blessings!

  15. Thanks for sharing. This was very encouraging! I am in the early stages of life at home with littles, totally sleep deprived with my third baby (only 5 weeks) and feeling very disconnected from God due to all the activity and fatigue. Your post was such a helpful reminder that we won't stay in any season forever, both good and bad. I also was encouraged by what you said about not being embarrassed about the seasons we've been in... just brings me back to the knowledge that the best parts of me are those areas God has transformed and that isn't ever anything to be ashamed of! (p.s. I am one of your instagram friends, frampuna on flickr..:)

  17. Trish, you are very good with describing your feelings and your path...it is a true gift! In comparison to what you've just witnessed in your life, I know that in keeping a journal (which I recommend to my daughter quite often and yet, I myself, have slacked in doing for the past year or so) we can often go back and look at what we've been thru and perhaps see the change and growth. We can also look back upon joyous things that happened to us and remember them when we are in the midst of trials...it is all so encouraging! Thank you for sharing!
